Rummy is played world over. There is still no consensus over the origination of Rummy, but it's widely believed that Rummy was originated in the 19th century and became popular in Mexico during the 20th century.

Rummy has five popular variants: Indian Rummy, 13 Cards Rummy, Gin Rummy, Kalookie Rummy and Oklahoma Rummy.

Indian Rummy

Two decks of cards and two joker are used in Indian Rummy. A printed joker and the one that is randomly selected make Indian Rummy really interesting.

13 Cards Rummy

13 cards Rummy is very popular worldwide in general, and India in Particular. The name of this game is inspired from the 13-card game play. Each player receives 13 cards one at a time and the objective is to make four sets of right combinations. A single deck comes into play in 13 cards Rummy with one joker only, which is randomly selected. No printed joker in 13 cards Rummy.

Gin Rummy

Gin Rummy is also popular among Rummy fans. It's widely played in European countries and involves only two players with each receiving 10 cards. Only one randomly selected joker is used in Gin Rummy.

Kalookie Rummy

Kalooki Rummy is very popular in Britain both in clubs and private. Two decks are used in this game along with two jokers - One that is randomly selected and the other that is printed. Therefore, there are 106 cards in total that come into play. Kalookie is played between at least two and maximum five players. The players receive 13 cards each and the player who first makes the four sets of right combinations wins the game.

Oklahoma Rummy

Oklahoma Rummy is a popular variant of Gin Rummy and is played between at least two and maximum four players. A 52-card deck is used to play Oklahoma Rummy and only one randomly-selected joker can be used by the players. When played between two, 10 cards are dealt to each player, whereas seven cards are dealt when played between three or four players.
