Joker- The card placed face-up under the closed deck is indicative of the Joker for that hand. It is a wild card and can be used by players to complete sequences and sets.
Barring one pure sequence, the joker can be used to complete any sequence/set. The joker changes with every hand.
The joker cannot be picked from the discarded pile of cards, hence, it must always be drawn from the closed deck.
NOTE: For a hand to be considered valid, it must contain at least one sequence which is pure. A pure sequence is one that is made without the use of a Joker. The rest of the hand can be made up of impure sequences or sets.
|Players||No. of cards distributed||Melds|
Reward distribution system:
In Gamentio Rummy the Chips/ Points awarded at the end of the game are calculated by summing up the numeric value of incomplete melds of other players. This value is then multiplied with the stakes of that room. (e.g. $10, $20 etc.)
Numeric Value of cards in ascending order:
Two-2, Three-3, Four-4, Five-5, Six-6, Seven-7, Eight-8, Nine-9, Ten-10, J-11, Q-12, K-13, A-14
Note: Ace-2-3 is a valid sequence but Ace will stand for a numeric value of 14. However, King-Ace-2 or ''round the corner'' sequences are not valid.
The objective of the game is to meld cards into groups of Sequences (Runs) or Sets.
6789 of same suit is a pure sequence(Run) of 4 cards. 678 of same suit is also a pure sequence(Run) of three cards. But 4444 of different suits is NOT a sequence, it is called a Set. K-Q-J is a pure sequence if all the three cards are of same suit. If any card is of different suit, it is an invalid sequence. If 7 is placed under the closed deck as a joker, then all the 7s of all suits are jokers.
Question:Can I use a Joker in a pure sequence?
Answer: Yes you can, but one pure sequence is mandatory for all hands, meaning without a joker. After you have one pure sequence, you can use the joker card to complete either a sequence or a straight.
Question: Is it possible for a player to get three jokers?
Answer: Well, it certainly is, but requires great luck to get all the three jokers.
Question: Can all the sets be sequences?
Answer: Yes. All the sets can be sequences if your possible hands have no scope for straights, but sequences.
Question: Is Rummy a game of skill or chance?
Answer: Rummy is a game of skill since it requires a lot of thinking and awareness of the moves of your opponents. Rummy requires a player to be well aware of their possible melds and which cards they must not discard to keep the opponents from advantage.
Question: Can I pick a joker discarded by the player just before my turn?
Answer: No. A joker cannot be picked from the discarded pile. However, if you get a joker from the closed deck, you can use it to your advantage to make a combination.
Question: What are right combinations in Rummy?
Answer: In Rummy, right combinations involve sequences of same suits or straights as showed below.
Rummy is one of the oldest card games to be recorded in history and is said to be derived from a Mexican card game called Conquian. It belongs to the category of skill based card games. It's rise to popularity can be associated with how easy it is to play and the fact that it requires skill and not luck to succeed. So embrace yourselves while we walk you through ''How to Play Rummy''
Rummy is a game of Drawing and Discarding cards until one player forms the requisite hand of cards (melds of either, Sequences of cards belonging to the same suit, or, Sets) and Declares his/ her hand.
Dealer Button: The Rummy card game begins with deciding the Dealer. This happens automatically in the game as all the players are dealt a card each and the player who receives the highest card gets to go first. Turn then moves clockwise around the table.
However, if you're joining a room where a game is already in progress Deal will be awarded to the winner of the previous game and turn will rotate clockwise.
The Deal: The next step is distribution of cards to the players. In a 2 player game = 13 cards each, 3 player game= 10 cards each, 4 player game= 7 cards each are dealt (each player's cards are visible only to them). After this the next card is opened and kept face-up on the table and forms the discard pile of cards. The rest of the deck is kept next to it and forms the closed deck. The Joker is kept face up underneath the closed deck.
Gameplay: The player who is the Dealer will go first and may either pick the face-up card from the discard pile or draw a card from the closed deck. Turn will then pass on to the player sitting next to the Dealer in a clockwise manner and so on and so forth. This will continue to happen till a player creates a valid hand (with melds of Sequences of cards belonging to the same suit or Sets) and Declares it. As soon as a player Declares their hand the game comes to an end and the other players are required to Meld their cards in the best possible order and Declare their hands too. The winner is awarded Chips/Points on the basis of incomplete melds of the other players.
Sequence- Is a meld (arrangement or group) of 3-4 consecutive cards belonging to the same suit.
Set- Is a meld (arrangement or group) of 3-4 cards of the same rank belonging to different suits.
Joker- Is a wild card and can be used to complete either a Sequence or a Set. The Joker changes with every hand played.
Pure Sequence- Is a sequence made without the use of a Joker.
