In India, any celebration or any get-together is incomplete till all the family members or guests do not play rummy. We all must have seen our grandparents, parents and elders playing Rummy, and now we play rummy card game in our social circle and with our families too.

Although the passion of playing rummy remains the same, the only thing that has changed with time and generations are the few rules. Due to the many variations in rummy, the names and rules might vary, but its objective is similar, i.e. to meld all the cards in sequences and sets as early as possible. Among all the variations, Indian rummy is one of the most popular card games. Below are some of the most popular types of rummy games:

Indian Rummy:

Indian rummy is the refined version of the original form of rummy and is also known as 13 card rummy. It is usually played between 2 to 6 players with a single deck of cards. The number of deck cards increases depending upon the players playing. Each player is dealt with 13 cards and with a single joker which is randomly selected. The main aim is to meld all the cards into valid sets and sequence before your opponent and make your points to zero because points carry negative value. One pure sequence is mandatory for a player to make and that too without the use of the joker.

Gin Rummy:

Gin is a two player game and is mostly played across the European continent. Each player receives 10 cards throughout the game as there is no concept of a joker. In this game, it is not necessary that a player has to form his cards into sets and sequences. The player can finish the game if he has less value of unmatched cards (Deadwood) than his opponents. The Deadwood is any card that a player has in his hands and is not a part of melding. King is considered as a high card and Ace as a low card.

This game carries a concept called knocking. This means that if a player has fewer points than his opponents, then he can knock out. But, after knocking if the opponent has fewer points than the player who knocked out, then the penalty will be added to the player who knocked him out.

Oklahoma Rummy:

Oklahoma rummy is exactly the same as Gin Rummy, but with few basic variations. In this game, up to 4 players can play with a standard deck of 52 cards and the counting of cards depends on the number of players playing. If 2 players are playing, both of them will get 10 cards and if there are 3-4 players, then each player will get 7 cards. Each card is picked by the player from the shuffled deck and whosoever has the lowest card deals first. The goal is to meld the card in a valid sequence and sets until a player knocks out.

Kalooki Rummy:

It is a very popular game in Jamaica and it is also called Jamaican Rummy. It is normally played with 2 to 5 players. Two standard decks of cards are used along with two jokers as wild cards. So it is usually played with a total of 106 cards. Each game is played with 9 deals. The aim of this game is to meld or lay off all your cards before your opponent. The winner of the game is one who has the lowest total score.

Rummy 500:

Rummy 500 is a game of 2 to 8 players. The main factor of this game is that each player will get the value of the sets or cards they meld. The game is not finished until a player has no cards in his hand or there are no cards left in the closed deck. The significant rule of this game is that a player can take more than one card from the discard pile only if he can meld them with the ones which the player has in his hand. The player who wins the race to grab 500 points is the winner of the game.

Rummy game is played not only by adults but by people of all age categories. Depending upon your preferences and the number of players available, you can choose any variation of Rummy. The rules of all these games are more or less similar. This game is well acclaimed even in the digital format also. Among all the variations in online Rummy, Indian rummy is one of the most popular one. So, if you have good matching and memorization skills, play rummy real money online and make some good money by playing with random players around the country.
